Parish Notes
Candlemas: Thursday is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. – Candlemas. Mass at 8.00pm in both Kilbegnet and Glinsk. Blessing of Candles at the beginning of Mass. After Mass the Blessing of St Blaise (throats) will be available. As Fri is the Feast of St Blaise, the Blessing will also be available after the Fri evening Mass.
St Brigid: The Feast of the Secondary Patron of Ireland is on Wednesday 1st February. Mass 8pm in Kilbegnet.
Catholic Schools Week: Sunday 28th January to 4th February. For 2012 we reflect on the school as a community having as its goal the full development of the pupil. Catholic schools consist of pupils, staff members, parents, school management and patrons. They form a vital part of the local community. The proverb says “it takes a whole village to rear a child” and in its own way each school mirrors the local community in its nurturing concern for its pupils. The school and its teachers support parents and their parish in the Christian initiation of children. The Children of Glinsk School are preparing a Display on the theme and incorporating St Brigid’s Crosses. The Display will be in the Church for next weekend.
First Friday: Fr Phelim will be making visits to the housebound on Saturday.
Eucharistic Adoration: Following a request to Glinsk Parish Council from a group of parishioners we have decided to go ahead with the Eucharistic Adoration. Michael Kumar, Coordinator for Eucharistic Adoration in Tuam Archdiocese, will speak to us at Masses in Glinsk on the weekend of February 11/12 to introduce the practice of Eucharistic Adoration and to prepare us for the introduction of the practice beginning in early March. Eucharistic Adoration is already being practised in many parishes in Ireland and now we in our parish have the opportunity to spend some quiet time regularly in the presence of the Lord to pray and to deepen our own spiritual lives.
Parish Council: Next Meeting on Tuesday 7th February 8.30pm in the Presbytery.
Eucharistic Congress: As part of the preparation for the Congress, June 10th to 17th, a joint committee comprising parish council members from both Glinsk & Kilbegnet has begun a process of planning for activities in our parish. In the coming week you will receive a letter indicating what the Eucharistic Congress is about and asking you, our parishioners, to submit ideas of you own about what you think we could do as a parish by way of preparation for the Eucharistic Congress.
Fr Phelim Jordan: Will be away this Sunday until Tuesday evening. For any emergencies ring Donamon 090-66-52222.
Glinsk Bothar: Wish to thank everyone who supported 'A day at the Thresher' recently. An excellent DVD of the day is still available, contact Jimmy Barlow at 087 9628445. Our seven in-calf heifers for 2011 were flown to Romania on Jan 18th. Thanks to the following families for rearing them: Kelly's Clooncagh, Raftery's Ballincurry, Hegarty's Glinsk, Barlow's Cloonfaughna, Connellys Ballinakill Killacky's Glinsk and Quinn's Arda. We would be interested in contacting generous farmers who would be willing to donate a Friesian heifer calf to Bothar and we will rear her. The in-calf heifers are given to the neediest farmers in developing countries. If you feel you could help Bothar please contact any of the farmers mentioned above. Once again thank you for your support over the last five years.
