First Holy Communion: Congratulations to the children who made their First Holy Communion in Glinsk Church: Paul Coyne, Edward Kilheeney and Daniel Scappaticci.
Eucharistic Congress: The Eucharistic Congress Prayer will be read after Communion at weekend Masses from this weekend until the end of the Congress. There are still some places available for youth aged 17 to 35 at the Mass in Croke Park on June 17th. Please contact Fr. Phelim 089 4624240 if anyone is interested. The parish will cover the €25 cost.
Pre-Exam Youth Mass: Will be held in Glinsk Church on Tuesday 29th May at 8.00pm.
Revisiting the Mass: Copies of a flier about a course on "Revisiting the Mass, Part 2", with dates, times & venues have been left in the porches of the church. The course is a follow-up on Part 1 which took place late last year. There is a €3 charge for each session.
Cemetery Masses: Have been set for Friday July 20th at 8.00pm in Ballinakill & Friday July 27th at 8.00pm in Kilcolumb. Graveyard Masses in Kilbegnet have been set for Wednesday August 15th at 8.00pm (new cemetery) & August 26th at 7.00pm (old cemetery).
Famine Remembrance Sunday: In Ireland, the Great Famine was a period of mass starvation, disease and emigration between 1845 and 1852. During the famine approximately 1 million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland, causing the island's population to fall by 20% - 25%. We remember the victims today.
Fatima Shrine: On 13th May 1917 Our Lady appeared for the first time to three children, also on 13th May in 1981 Pope John Paul II was blessing about 10,000 people in St Peter’s, Rome when a gunman opened fire and hit the Pope with four bullets. When he recovered, the Pope made a Pilgrimage to Fatima to thank Our Lady for saving his life.
Elphin Pilgrimage to Lourdes: Our parish has been asked to nominate 2 young people between the ages of 16 & 20, one from Kilbegnet & one from Glinsk, to participate in the youth section of the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes from August 28th to September 2nd. The cost will be €540, half of which will be met by the parish. Applicants should let Fr. Phelim know by phone (089 462 4240) by this Sunday, May 13th if they are interested in taking part in this valuable work. A great evening’s entertainment is sure to be had by all. Tickets will be available on the door at a cost of €5 for adults, €2 for Students and Children free.
Glinsk Centenary 1912 to 2012: Thanks to the many people who have sent in photographs and photos of family groups, events and activities from days gone by are still welcome. They can be scanned while you wait by the School secretary. Articles for the book to be published as part of the Centenary celebrations would also be most welcome. A fund raising social will be held in the Glencastle Lounge Sat June 2nd, please support.
Sunshine Class: Wishes to sincerely thank those who organised fund raising projects on our behalf. Thanks to all who organised and partook in the Ceilí in Kilbegnet Hall, especially Kevin Kelly. A total of €1,073.98 was raised. Sincere thanks also to those involved in Tag Rugby in the Green, €1,361.05 was raised. Also thanks to the organisers of the Barrie Harris Walk, especially Bina Harris for their generous donation of €1,000.
Clean-Up: Thanks to volunteers from Keelogues, Fartown & Knockmaskahil who gave 2 days over the Holiday weekend to clean up the stretch of road between Keelogues and Knockmaskahil Cross. Galway County Council will now impose fines for illegal dumping.
Barrie Harris Memorial Walk Committee: Would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported our 2011 walk. €15,000 was distributed to 15 different charities last Friday night in O’Roarke’s Creggs. We look forward to your continued support.
